Third Time's the Charm!

The phrase "Third time's the charm" refers to the superstition that after two failures in any endeavor, a third attempt is more likely to succeed.   ~Wikipedia

In my case, the third attempt at going for my school bus driver's licence was the charm! Finally!

I could have given up after I failed the first time. I wanted to give up when I failed the second time. Not sure what I would have done if I'd failed a third time, but I suspect I would have tried again. Why not? :)

I woke up yesterday morning only to see snow EVERYWHERE. The previous day had been completely dry of course.  I hopped in the bus and drove around for about an hour so I could get a feel for how bad the roads were. It was a little nervewracking let me tell you. I couldn't even see the lines on the highway! I felt comfortable by the end of my practice though. I just had to go a lot slower than usual. The last thing I wanted to do was end up in the ditch that day.

I showed up for my exam and sat nervously in the driver's seat trying to compose myself. My legs and arms were feeling tingly and numb - something that happens to me when I'm nervous. Not the best scenario for driving a bus right?

I took several deep breaths, turned off the ignition and walked/floated into the exam office.

I was somewhat relieved to see a man there rather than the scary, expressionless women who I'd previously been tested by. He was very friendly and joked around a lot - which totally made me feel a little more at ease. I was still scared shitless however. I wanted to throw up.

As luck would have it, he was new to the area and had never tested anyone driving a bus in that particular town so I got to lead the way for most of the entire road test. I felt like I had more control over the situation. I knew what to expect.

Long story short, I passed the test and I was SO relieved that I gave the examiner a big hug. I don't think he was expecting that. LOL  He also jokingly had to ask me if I could open the door to let him out of the bus. I was in such a daze that it didn't even occur to me. Haha.

So now that I have my licence, this means I can apply for a position as a driver in my area. I'll let you know how that goes! :)
