August Break 2011 - Day 8

I finally got a really good sleep last night after a few terrible ones. No thunderstorms, no kids wetting the bed, no sobbing quietly into my pillow...you know, the typical stuff that would keep a single, slightly frazzled and frayed mother up ;)

As a result of such an awesome sleep (or maybe just insanity) I cleaned like a maniac today. I washed windows, swept floors, removed green fuzzy things from the fridge and got my kitchen in order. I sharpened some knives too. Mine were getting really dull.

In between my maniacal cleaning & bathroom sobbing, I happily stumbled upon Dave Ursillo's blog while doing my usual daily internet perusing. I ended up signing on for 18in18 - 'an 18-day program that teaches you 18 of the most powerful and life-changing lessons from the Tao te Ching, a 2,600 year old text written by ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tsu.'

I have a few Tao-te Ching texts on my bookshelf, but they're written in such a way that it kind of hurts my brain to try and understand it. Dave's program breaks it all down and makes it more comprehensive for the modern reader. I'm excited to get my first email tomorrow. Seriously, for only $9, how can you go wrong? I could use a some MORE powerful & life changing lessons right about now. I'll let you know how it goes ;)

My mom just sent me over some fresh baked chocolate cupcakes after the kids went to bed. She's so awesome. Having her live right down the street sure comes in handy. I'm hoping she spiked them with Valium or horse tranquilizers. I'd be fine with either of those. Not picky really.

I'm washing them down with some cold coffee and Royal Wood crooning sweetly in my ear. The perfect ending to a very long day. I might fire off a few rounds of my shotgun for a finishing touch. If anyone asks, I'll just say there were rabid skunks in my yard.

My August break day 8 photo is a self portrait. This girl is really digging life the past couple of years. It's like one of those really scary roller coaster rides where kids puke at the end. I wouldn't trade it for anything though. ;)

Yeah, baby.

  1. Yeah, she's cute and all, but I was really hoping for the 'I've been out all night partying/crying my eyes out all day look' with the 'I don't give a shit' hair style... Ah, well. Maybe next time. ;)
