Christmas 2014

This was the first time we've had a real tree for Christmas and I quite loved it. The smell alone was divine and it makes me wish I could have trees in the house all the time. And squirrels. The cats think the tree stand is some sort of fancy water bowl apparently.
The kids were at their dad's for a few days over Christmas and this was the scene waiting for them when they got home on Boxing Day.

While they were gone, I got busy wrapping presents, sipping wine - and napping. (There's nothing quite as heavenly as having a nap in a completely empty house with the knowledge that nobody could possibly bother me :)
The kitty 'helped' by laying on the wrapping paper, batting rolls of tape off the table and getting tangled up in ribbon.
"Oh, do you need these scissors?"
A huge box of yarn I'd ordered arrived on Christmas Eve, so I was happy as could be. Hot cups of coffee, nibbling on chocolates and making granny squares has occupied a lot of my vacation time. (The cat also 'helped' by getting tangled in the yarn as I crocheted.)
The kids tore open their presents in record time when they got home. There were remote control cars zooming over my feet and helicopters whizzing past my ears, wrapping paper everywhere and happy, tired kids.
Catie sewed for hours with her new little sewing machine. She did pretty good! I think I'll let her give my machine a whirl and see how she does.
The kids returned to school this past Monday and I think I was quite relieved about that. Don't tell them that though! The lazy days, sleeping in and lack of routine was really nice of course, but after awhile a mama just needs some structure and silence. The weather has been ridiculously cold for the past couple of weeks so nobody wanted to go play outside.
Over the holidays, my brother was over helping me with my annual house cleaning spree and I feel like I can finally breathe again. It never ceases to amaze me how much stuff can accumulate in such a short time. I was starting to feel trapped by it all. It was so nice to have the time and energy to tackle such a huge project.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the last few days of my vacation in a quiet, clean house. I started a new exercise program on Monday, so I'm having a little bit of trouble walking up stairs, putting my boots on and just moving around in general. Ha! I'm also having a really intense desire to rip open a bag of chocolate chips and eat them with a jar of peanut butter and a spoon. Perhaps I'll just brew myself a cup of tea and crochet something instead? :/
